Site Search: With Without the words: Search

LATEST NEWS [1/23/2004]: Attention Windows XP Users: The Windows .EXE for Pythoñol/PyBabelPhish does NOT run on Windows XP. However, it's known to run on Win98/95. So, XP users are just out of luck. Do NOT report this as a 'bug': the 'bug' is XP impersonating an operating system.

Idiom Help



DOCUMENTATION: IDIOM HELP
Pythoñol's idioms database contains thousands of common phrases, expressions, and nouns .

Click the 'Idioms' tab .


LIST ENGLISH IDIOMS:
Click the 'List English Idioms' button to show ALL of the idioms in Pythoñol's database, using an English-to-Spanish translation scheme . The idioms will be listed in alphabetical order .


SAVE TO FILE:
The 'Save To File' feature is a quick and easy way to save retrieved idioms to a plain text file . Simply click the 'Save To File' button, select a file name to save to, and click 'Ok' . The idioms found for the selected word or term will be saved to file for your future reference .


LIST SPANISH IDIOMS:
Click the 'List Spanish Idioms' button to show ALL of the idioms in Pythoñol's database, using a Spanish-to-English translation scheme . The idioms will be listed in alphabetical order .


KEYWORD / PHRASE:
The 'Keyword / Phrase:' text field is where you type in the word or term you wish to lookup in the idioms database . You can also select previously used words and terms from the drop-down list . The drop-down list stores a 'history' of up to 30 previously used words and terms .


SEARCH BUTTON:
Clicking the 'Search' button tells Pythoñol to search for the word or term you have entered in the 'Keyword / Phrase:' field (described above) . Pythoñol will display all possible matches, including both English-to-Spanish and Spanish-to-English matches .


SPANISH LETTERS TOOLBAR:
The Spanish Letters Toolbar contains several commonly-used, accented Spanish letters, not generally found on standard American keyboards . Clicking one of the letters on the Spanish Letters Toolbar will insert that accented letter into the 'Keyword / Phrase:' text field at the cursor position . This feature has been provided to help eliminate the need for an external 'character map' application .


View Page:
To view a particular page of idioms, select the page number you wish to view from the drop-down list named 'View Page:' , then click the 'Show Page' button . The thousands of idioms available are organized alphabetically and divided among many pages .



SEARCHING THE IDIOM DATABASE:
The steps for searching the idiom database are very simple:

1 . Type in the word or term you wish to search for into the 'Keyword / Phrase:' text field, or select a previously used verb or term from the drop-down list .

2 . Use the Spanish Letters Toolbar , as needed, to insert accented Spanish letters into the 'Keyword / Phrase:' text field .

3 . Click the 'Search' button . Any idioms matching your word or term will be displayed in the idioms window .

4 . If you wish to save the idioms for this search to a file, click the 'Save To File' button, enter a file name, and click 'Ok' . Your idiom matches for the selected word or phrase will be saved for your future reference .

5 . If you are running a Linux/Unix version of Pythoñol, and have an LRPng/LPR-based spooler system on your computer, you may print the results by clicking 'File' -> 'Print...' on the Pythoñol main menu . (Sorry, Windows users!) See 'Help' --> 'Help...' on the menu for more information on printing in Pythoñol .


If you have the Festival text-to-speech extension installed and usable, you may hear the words pronounced by clicking the light blue 'Play' button, generally located to the left of your screen . Click 'Help' -> 'Festival Text-to-Speech Help...' on the menu for more information .
